This movie was made from a 1951 novel of the same name by Paul Horgan.  He wrote “Great River” one of best books ever written about New Mexico. So I was looking forward to watching the movie.

A Distant Trumpet

Set in 1883 a new lieutenant fresh from West Point finds out what’s it like in the real world.  He holds to his values and is rewarded in the end. Not the best western.
