8 Mile (2002)

8 Mile is a film starring Eminem.  It is the tale of Rabbit, a struggling white emcee who has to battle stage fright, poverty, race and all the other issues brought on by growing up hard in Detroit, to make it to the top.

This movie was really lame.  It had almost zero authenticity.  The dialogue did not allow this movie an ounce of street cred.  I think there may have been harder hitting episodes of Degrassi.  It wasn’t bad enough to be at the bottom, but starring a rapper from the hard knocks of Detroit, this was silly.  The rap scenes were bad and I didn’t even care if the main guy made it.  Eminem was not good here in my opinion.  It may have been more interesting as a tragedy to be honest.  It did hold my attention and the story was not too full of cliches.  It did have that going for it, but overall, not very enjoyable.

“So I hear you’re a real dope rapper.”
