American Violet (2009)
American Violet is a film about a wrongfully accused mother and her court battles with a District Attorney who has no mercy. It is based on a true story in Texas.
This movie was okay. It really wasn’t good or bad. It had a good message that I agree with, but the film was pretty bland. The lead actress, Nicole Baharie, does a good job in her role and I liked Xzibit in his role as the bad ex-boyfriend. There were several scenes intended for emotional draw that came off as pretty gimmicky. I can think of one off hand where they were coming out of the courtroom and they stop walking and sit on some steps to literally say three cheesy lines. It was awkward. Overall, I liked the movie’s message and thought the acting allowed the movie to be slightly above average.
“Of course I call them niggers. You uppity piece of shit. Can’t think of any folks down here that don’t call you people niggers.”
“Yet race has nothing to do with whom you prosecute as DA.”
