Gigantic is a movie starring Zooey Deschanel and Paul Dano.

This movie is about nothing.  Sometimes that is not so bad, but this time it is.  It tries too hard to be indie style, all small and quiet, and it gets lost in its own tiny thoughts.  This is proof that quirky does not equal cool.  The film also relies on Zooey Deschanel being charming, which she isn’t.  I might just be saying that because I am in the 5% of guys that didn’t have a crush on her when this came out.  I mean props for fellow vegans, but she is boring.  All her characters are, and now I think it is her.  Ed Asner and John Goodman, who are very charming, end up as silly caricatures instead of real characters and the movie was bad for it.  The initial scene in the laboratory was a great opening and Paul Dano was okay, but that was about it.  Thank goodness this was not done as a comedy or I would have really hated it.
